We came pretty late to Sofia and after finding hotel we get pretty hungry. Have been recommended this place and YES I can highly recommend it. The restaurant itself is really nice. I didn’t really care about music to be honest or decoration (although both really good) but the food and service is something what I have to mention. The food (at least my one) was die for and girl who served is was absolutely amazing.
This traditional Bulgarian restaurant in Sofia is a quintessential place to try while visiting. From the ornate exterior to the rustic, homey interior. The staff are dressed up and when I went for dinner there was a live band playing. I was worried for a minute when I entered that it could skew on the cheesy super touristy side but when I tried the food, it was legit. The menu can be overwhelming to choose from because it’s so large but we loved everything we ordered. The skewered chicken was fire grilled perfectly. We were glad we were seated indoors and not in the outdoor/courtyard section because that’s where all the smoking was. We had so much fun we even met people at nearby tables. A really cute, themed experience for visitors that I can definitely recommend after traveling to 31 countries.
We had some issue with the food, but the staff and manager dealt with us promptly and with respect. We thought they acted very professionally, so we still give them 5 stars. Food was pretty good, and volume in each dish was good enough as well. The restaurant is very proud to say that everything is freshly cooked from raw ingredients, and we really appreciated not only the taste but the authenticity and originality. The atmosphere was superb - great traditional-sounding music, nice ambience from the traditional-looking interior design, with various ‘levels’ of tables/seating so you don’t always see eye-to-eye with everyone even if the rooms are filled with people. Staff were quick with their work yet remained respectful. We made reservations online, paid by credit card afterwards.
We went to this restaurant because of a large number of recommendations. But we were disappointed. The appetizers were really good, the main course was disappointing, there was too much pepper in the meat so it dominated and the taste of the meat itself could not be expressed. The potatoes as a side dish were full of water and tasteless, just like the salad was dry and tasteless. In any case, this place is not necessary to visit.
This was my last night in Sofia, and I feel very fortunate to have discovered this restaurant. I truly enjoyed a traditional Bulgarian dinner here — this is absolutely a must-visit spot in Bulgaria. The décor, ambiance, and atmosphere are first-class, full of authentic Bulgarian character. The food was delicious, and the service was attentive overall. However, I would like to offer one piece of feedback. When a guest requests to change tables, there is usually a reason behind it. I hope the staff can be a little more understanding, proactive, and attentive in such situations. The table we were first assigned had a lot of flies flying around, which made it uncomfortable to sit and eat. When I asked to change tables, the waiter back-talked me and told me to go ask the manager myself for approval. I understand no one likes to rearrange seating or disturb the flow of service, but I also hoped to simply enjoy a pleasant dinner on my last night in Sofia. Thank you for the lovely food and beautiful setting. With just a bit more attention to customer experience, this place would truly be perfect.
