We came here for lunch and were lucky to get a table by the window. The service was outstanding, everyone was friendly and attentive, especially the sommelier, who recommended some excellent wines for us. We chose the tasting menu, and it did not disappoint! My personal favorite was the dessert, meringue! :-) The drive up the narrow road was a bit of an adventure, but once we arrived, the stunning view made it all worth it.
Spectacular setting far above Montreux with panoramic view of the lake and surrounding mountains. Away from the bustle of central Montreux and a welcomed reprieve. Well executed cuisine, both starters and main. Attentive service. We dined in the bistro, which is more casual. Modern decor. Though not customary, I would suggest a table cloth for the bistro as this is not an ordinary bistro (or priced as an ordinary bistro). Highly recommended and worth the high price.
I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant Stéphane Décotterd. We had an unforgettable pre-Christmas dinner with family at this gastronomic restaurant in the hills above Montreux. The space has been beautifully renovated, blending classy decor, elegant lighting, and refined details in the flooring and ceilings. The large windows offer spectacular views of the vineyards, Lake Geneva, and the mountains — even though clouds obscured the scenery during our visit, I know from previous visits how stunning the panorama truly is. The menu caters to all appetites, offering full or limited tasting menus, à la carte options, and even a thoughtful gastronomic menu for kids, which made the younger guests feel included. I started with the blue shrimp carpaccio, paired with white bacon and delicate acidic notes that elevated the dish to perfection. The heart of salmon from Graubünden and perch fillets from Lake Geneva were beautifully prepared, both featuring impressive sauces that we couldn’t leave untouched. A small critique: unbinding the perch seemed unnecessary, as the bones are manageable and part of the local experience. We also explored the cheese selection, which was exceptional, though a wider variety of bread could have complemented it further. Desserts were standout: the tartelette aux marrons with roasted chestnuts was delicately balanced, while the poire conférence dessert with cardamom, vanilla flan, and financier biscuit offered a perfect harmony of flavors and textures. The service was warm, professional, and attentive, though more frequent bread refills would have been welcome to fully savor the sauces. A small takeaway gift, as seen in other high-end establishments, could add an extra touch to the experience. Overall, the meal was a culinary delight. The creativity, precision, and quality of the dishes make this restaurant a must-visit. Highly recommended!
The lighting at dinner being somewhat subdued, the pictures don't really do the food justice. I was part of a group dining here and enjoying a multi-course "tasting-style" menu. I had the vegan menu and it was a delight. I lost count of how many dishes there were, but each dish was beautifully presented and expertly explained by the waiter. The tastes and textures were different for each dish, so this was truly a culinary journey. Wines were paired throughout the meal and complemented the food beautifully. Add to that the stunning views and this was a memorable experience.
Was the chef on holiday? Had lunch at the bistro. Expected a far bit more to be honest. A nice drive up the hills, beautiful views. Friendly reception. Table with views of the town and lake below. The starters were great, beautiful hand cut steak tartare and pate en croute. But the mains were very disappointing and below stander for a place like this. “Fish and Chips” if you fry fish with a batter crust, make sure it’s crispy! Same for the fries, they were soggy and completely soaked with fat. Turn the fryer up! Fry at higher temperature? And don’t leave it on the pass to long….. The home made pork sausage was way too dry, needed more of the fatty meat and needed more flavouring too. The baked potato and veggies tasted as if they were reheated in the microwave! So we were very disappointed by the mains and side dishes. Basically ruining what was supposed to have been a beautiful experience…..
