Historic restaurant that goes back more than 450 years. Unfortunately, a bit of a disappointing food experience. This restaurant with good reputation seems to have become a mass-tourism operation recently. They specialize in wild game dishes (it’s the season) and we expected excellence - which wasn’t delivered. The cold starters for two were really barely enough for one. The sausages were tasty but served with bread fried in bad frying oil. The deer stew main course was “okay” but served with Schupfnudeln pasta that was deep fried to death and were so hard that it was difficult to bite them. The cabbage that came alongside was again drenched in not-so-great oil. The Schnitzel was good but served with an unnecessary huge amount of plain rice of the not so tasty variant. The salad was a bit tasteless. On top of all that, everything was way too expensive for what has been served (and this is something I very rarely say.)
Food was good (for Austrian standards) about 6/10 Salads was soups from the dressing and the greens was too big. Bread was ok with some kind of cold cut meat. Chamoi sausage was excellent Fried fish from the lake was about 4/10
We were a little worried that this restaurant might be a bit too “touristy”. In fact, it was a lovely restaurant with very tasty food. I would come here again! Strongly recommend the roast pork, which is something a bit different to schnitzel that you can get pretty much everywhere.
We had a lovely experience here. We tried to eat in Hallstatt but they wanted only cash so we came here cause we saw that this place has many reviews and was already full when we pass it through the village. The prices are like 24€ for what I ordered “fried pork with potato and cabbage “ was just nice. The beers are between 4-6€ so not bad at all and the staff it’s super nice. You should check this out if you are in the area.
The food is good but nothing special, so a bit pricey for the amount and quality. The salad isn't properly washed, there was a worm inside it, so two of my people felt too much disgusted to finish their salats. The waitress offered just coffee or spirits as a excuse, which no one of us drinks. Would be nice to get something offered which we will actually want. Actually it's sad considering the good location and nice view, it seems the restaurant is only continuing business by only this advantages and the prefix of the name.
