Amazing food, amazing staffs and service. The hotel is centrally located, super clean, everything is nearby. Highly recommended to visit when in Hallstatt whether to stay or to have food.
We ordered the tomato pasta and lamb, and both were absolutely delicious and well-seasoned! The prices are on the higher side, but you get excellent food along with a lovely dining experience by the lake. Highly recommend to dine here if you’re visiting Hallstatt!
I visited the restaurant, and while the service from our assigned server was acceptable, the initial experience was extremely disappointing. When we entered, about five staff members—including one who appeared to be of Indian descent—looked directly at us, yet not a single person acknowledged or welcomed us. I had to say “hello” around seven times before anyone finally bothered to seat us. Such neglect made the overall service feel unprofessional and very poor. The food itself was average at best.
Kind and professional staff. Neat place and nicely decorated. View over the lake is very nice from the inside of the restaurant. We ordered 4 different courses and everything tasted very good. A bit on the pricier side but it was worth it.
My wife and I stayed at the Gruner Baum during our first trip to Austria in June 2025. As newbies, we didn't understand how crowded Hallstatt can become. But the people at the hotel were very nice to us, anticipated our needs and treated us well in every way. We stayed in a suite with a balcony view of the lake which is very much worth the extra cost. When we noticed that the sun made the balcony hard to use in the afternoon, they brought up a large patio umbrella! We enjoyed the wonderful buffet breakfast each day on the terrace which was a treat. They offered accurate recommendations on things to do and when to do them. They even took in their shuttle van all the way up to the Five Fingers lift, saving us a bus ride. I can say lots of wonderful things about the hotel and staff and the surroundings in Hallstatt. If you choose to go, it's one of the world's most beautiful places but know that the town is extraordinarily crowded during the day (we were there on Monday and Tuesday evenings) in the summer. When the day ends and the day crowds leave, it's a wonderful thing.
