Nice city hotel with Austrian hospitality.
Had an absolutely great stay at Der Sandwirth! Great room, great service and friendly staff, great breakfast! Will definitely stay here again!
My wife and I have been guests at this hotel for many years; it is undoubtedly the most pleasant hotel in Klagenfurt, among other things because it has a nicely arranged mini SPA on the fourth floor. However, lately I have noticed that the quality of the hotel is rapidly declining. In the past, you would even be provided with slippers in the hotel, but now they are no longer available, and it is now really unpleasant to lug oneself from the hotel room to the fourth floor, where the saunas are located. On that fourth floor, the hotel staff have essentially converted the wardrobe area into storage for towels. (photos) Since the hotel room does not provide a bathrobe, guests must be dressed in order to go to the sauna area. However, there is nowhere to change, because the hotel staff have taken over the wardrobes for towel storage. It is also very inappropriate that the hotel room does not include bathrobes or slippers, so guests now have to put on their own clothes and wear their own shoes just to reach the sauna area. This is very unacceptable! Additionally, the rooms themselves are in need of some renovation; in the superior rooms the wallpaper is peeling off. The hotel owners should visit and even stay at this hotel several times a week, because it seems that the management lacks a sense for properly running the hotel, and the hotel’s quality is falling.
This was a lovely stay! We only had one night but the room was cozy, clean, and spacious. The building itself was fantastic to explore. Staff were friendly and helpful. There was a city wide “water ban” and they provided one bottle of water total. It would have been nice to have one each. Only hiccup was finding the parking as the directions were not overly clear. We ended up in the most expensive garage as we couldn’t find the others but getting the hotel price was at least easy. Overall a really good stay in a fantastic location and a lovely historic building.
We were completely let down by this hotel. We were expecting a high standard and unfortunately it was the lowest standard we have ever come across. Dirty rooms and bathrooms, whole hotel looks tired and unloved. Reception staff not up to the job, no warm welcome , just clumsy , slow check in , mistakes made and looked scruffy in appearance. As they are the forefront of the hotel it should have given us an indication of how unpleasant the rooms would be. We returned to the desk a few times with questions about housekeeping or coffee top ups and were met with vacant stares and mumbling of “ I don’t know” . Really not the way to run a business. I suggest you employ staff that have much more enthusiasm and a lot more knowledge of their job. Will not return
