Warning: They serve American size portions!!! It’s just a local restaurant serving outstanding Austria cuisine. I had the Monday special roast pork belly with crispy skin. (3 pieces of pork belly each 1.1 cm thick). I’m stuffed. My friend had the schnitzel, served with pumpkin seeds on the crispy skin which makes it really unique. The restaurant isn’t big but very popular with the locals. I’m definitely coming back!!!
One of the best food I’ve had. The chili schnitzel was very crispy, juicy and succulent. Not very spicy so it was a nice flavour enhancement which gives the pork a more distinctive flavour. The fish cordon bleu was also quite unique, and we loved it. What we loved a lot was the potato salad! It was packed with flavour, creamy, and super tasty. Overall experience was just amazing. There are ample parking spaces on the road around the restaurant. Note that they only accept cash, no cards! Reservations are encouraged and probably required if you want a guaranteed seat.
This was hands-down the best meal I had during my entire trip to Austria! I ordered the extraordinarily spicy pork schnitzel—one of the hottest dishes I’ve ever eaten—and yet it still managed to be incredibly flavorful. The portion size was huge, served with an equally generous helping of perfectly seasoned potato salad. The lingonberry jelly on the side was a lovely touch that balanced everything out beautifully. What truly set the experience apart, though, was the outstanding service. Our server delivered some of the best hospitality I’ve ever encountered—warm, hilarious, and multilingual, cracking jokes and lifting our spirits throughout the meal. She also gave fantastic recommendations for my meal, and we left feeling thoroughly taken care of. We walked in on a packed Thursday night, and even with the crowd, they found a way to seat us. I’d recommend calling ahead to reserve a table and bringing cash, as they don’t accept cards. They also keep a wall of postcards in the entryway. Be sure to bring one to add to their collection if you’re traveling from far!
We decided to try there with our friends after our Alpenzoo trip. After looking at the menu, we ordered „Steirische Jauseplatte“ for 4 people, it was cheaper than ordering separately. After a while, the waitress brought our order by saying that she prepared only for two people thinking that we might not be able to eat all considering their giant portions. That was such a nice of her and we saw later that she made well! 😅 because we couldn’t finish two portions as four people in the end. In general, it’s very tasty traditional food and cozy environment there. The staff is quite friendly and helpful. If you want to visit in peak times, better to make a reservation. When we were there almost all the tables were reserved.
As a passionate culinary traveler, walking into Burenwirt feels like being embraced by Innsbruck’s soul—where rustic charm and hearty Austrian tradition are served with a smile. Surrounded by warm wood, glowing lanterns, and the gentle hum of shared laughter, I sampled the iconic Steirer Schnitzel—a golden marvel—paired with tangy potato salad and a crisp, local beer. My friend’s pork knuckle with sauerkraut and dumplings radiated homestyle richness, while the pumpkin-crusted schnitzel offered a delightful, seasonal surprise. The vegetarian cheese dumplings were comforting and generously portioned. Service was genuinely warm—friendly, attentive, and effortlessly welcoming. With its welcoming ambiance, nostalgic dishes, and heartfelt hospitality, Burenwirt isn’t just a dinner—it’s Innsbruck in every bite. Be sure to bring cash and book ahead—you’ll leave full, cozy, and simply happy.
