Hertog Jan

What an experience! We had high expectations when we started our evening at Hertog Jan but after 14 courses we were flabbergasted by the creativity and taste of every dish. This mixed with a highly skilled, motivated and friendly staff and we had the best cocktail to enjoy our night fully. We even got an additional dish to take home and enjoy the experience further the day after. Thanks to the amazing staff for the wonderful dinner!

This was an excellent experience. The food amazing, bold flavors expertly combined, quite some memorable dishes like the unsalted caviar, the mushroom ‘stew’, the white asparagus. Great wine selection and great service.

We made a reservation for two to celebrate a birthday on a Saturday in June. First, the location is beautiful. The walk to the restaurant from entering the park is stunning, and really adds to the uniqueness of the restaurant. Second, the style of the restaurant itself is amazing. It is very intimate, with grey, beige and dark tones. We have not been to a place more beautiful than Hertog Jan at Botanic. Finally, the food is amazing. I do not want to give away the many surprises, as that is something the chef will take care of. We especially liked the use of local ingredients, and the stories shared by the staff about the dishes. The whole experience is really personal, where we felt appreciated as guests. Some of the highlights: the dessert was delicious, with rich flavour combinations (truffle and buttermilk ice cream) making for a perfect dish. The use of yuzu in some of the dishes was executed perfectly and we loved the beetroot dish (amazing texture and flavours). All in all, a night to remember. A restaurant where you can indeed 'leave it to the chef'. P.s. the surprise that we took back to our hotel was perfect!

The motto "where precision meets poetry, and simplicity becomes a statement" describes the experience at the monastic Hertog Jan perfectly. We had lunch and fell in love. The restaurant blends perfectly in with the Botanic garden, the 'garden of poets'. I cannot wait to try the menu inspired on the next season.

Probably one of the most complete dining experiences one can find. From the tea ceremony at the beginning till the gift "foody bag" you open at home. Do not skip the signature dish! Why? You will see. No spoilers here. Kunst met de K van Culinair.
