Kohalen is a true gem for anyone who appreciates authentic Danish cuisine. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the focus on quality traditional food is clear from the first bite. Every dish reflects a commitment to simplicity and flavor, honoring Danish culinary traditions without unnecessary fuss. The tarteletter are a must-try — rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious. If you’re in the mood for something more familiar, the burger is also a solid choice, with a Danish twist that keeps things interesting. And for the more adventurous, the schnitzel topped with horseradish and anchovies is bold and full of character — definitely not for the fainthearted, but a memorable experience. One tip: book an earlier dinner slot. By the time we arrived, they had already run out of the roasted pork — a classic you won’t want to miss. They also offer a great selection of Aarhus local beer and gin, which pairs perfectly with their hearty Danish fare. Whether you're a local or just visiting Aarhus, Kohalen delivers a satisfying and authentic taste of Danish tradition. A place that respects its roots — and your appetite.
Very good place to try really good Danish traditional food for reasonable price. Friendly, smiling and helpful staff, big choice from menu. Big portions of well prepared, fresh and tasty food. Very cosy atmosphere. Nice terrace. Big and comfortable parking lot for clients. Restrong is really very busy, its better to book table in advance. Highly recommended.
Traditional Danish open sandwiches, seafood and other dishes. Not a young and trendy place, but one which will stay in a tourist's memory as an authentic dining experience.
Went there the other day for lunch and got a shootingstar, which was tasty and in big size. The surroundings is like walking back in a bubble to the 1930/40’s Denmark. It felt very authentic and the staff were friendly and dressed in uniforms matching the surroundings. Will try it again for evening service later.
Got a proper motherfu**ing bøf sandwich here, really big, lots of of everything, but cooked very well. Tasted amazing, had to take it home. Others at my table got the silt and loved it. Very nice staff, and clean area. There is outdoor seating aswell. When we were here there was about 45% capacity filled, but we had reserved about a table ahead, as many times before without reservations it was full. But you can try your luck on a weekday early to get in. I’m not sure how busy it is any other day, we went on a Monday.
