This restaurant is truly a gem. The atmosphere feels so authentic—the interiors are stunning and really enhance the dining experience. Please don’t modernize them; they’re perfect as they are. The restaurant was spotless, and I can honestly say I don’t remember the last time I visited a place where even the restroom was that clean. The food was a masterpiece. The fish plate was excellent, and the meatballs were outstanding. The portion of five meatballs was generous—each one was the size of several smaller meatballs, making the dish both filling and incredibly flavorful. The value for money was good. While it’s not a budget restaurant, the prices felt completely justified given the outstanding quality, taste, and atmosphere—with white cotton tablecloths adding an elegant touch. In fact, many comparable places in Helsinki would easily charge twice as much. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I can’t wait to return.
Authentic Finnish Cuisine Loved by Locals We visited as a group of three and ordered the lamb stew, reindeer steak, and the fish of the day. All of us were thoroughly satisfied with our meals! The restaurant was nearly full, and we could really feel how much it’s loved by the local community.
Finnish people sooo lovely and friendly and they speak perfect English! We were lucky to get a table in a busy evening. Our waitresses are very helpful and friendly. Recommend us our food and so on. The salmon soup was very tasty, the reindeer steak was soft and cook perfectly. The blueberry pie was good- I was expecting a little bigger 😂. All in all - I will come back to this place again when I visit Helsinki again- one day.
Goodness me. Partying like it is 1955 in Helsinki (and what an interesting place it would be, too). A really old-school institution of a place, serving classic Finnish food from 50 years ago. A culinary retrospective for sure. A dining room, long and thin, with dark wooden panelling - reminded me a of a boat (and it is not far from the water line). The crew were experienced, veteran even, and the crowd (and it was full) were afficianadi of this style of cooking. Truly tasty, good portions, some lovely touches, very salty food, good wines (limited list) and some Mannerheimisms to boot. I had a luscious lustrous salmon/fish soup, and then Turbot a la Mannerheim, then a Finnish speciality of a form of baked cheese pain perdu. I really enjoyed it (as did my wife). Strongly recommended, though new age gastronomes may get a heart attack.
Good place to try finnish food. This restaurant was our choice for the first night in Helsinki. The menu was fully in English and you have to order at the bar. There is an outside seating area.
