This was, without a doubt, the best dining experience I’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, every detail was flawless — the warm, attentive service, the beautifully curated ambience, and, most importantly, the food. Each course was a masterpiece, with flavour combinations and textures that surprised and delighted us throughout the evening. The presentation was impeccable, and the wine pairings elevated the dishes to another level. It’s clear that this is a kitchen where passion, precision, and creativity meet. Dining here is so much more than just a meal — it’s an experience, and one I’ll remember forever. Chef Jan and his team have created something truly world-class, and it made me incredibly proud to see a fellow South African making such an extraordinary mark in the culinary world. Unbelievable dining experience. Deserves its Michelin star. Every course was excellent and the wine pairing was very interesting with a combination of French and South African wines. The cheese room is so unique, photos and a review don’t do it justice.
Dining at JAN in Nice was an extraordinary culinary experience — one of those rare meals that lingers in your memory long after the final bite. From the moment we stepped through the door, we were enveloped in a warm, intimate atmosphere that felt more like a private dinner party than a restaurant. The service was flawless: gracious, attentive, and deeply knowledgeable without ever being pretentious. Each course was introduced with context and care, making us feel not just like diners, but like welcome guests on a journey through South African and French flavors. As for the food — every dish was a work of art, both visually and in flavor. Chef Jan Hendrik’s heritage shone through in imaginative pairings that balanced sophistication with soul. The tasting menu flowed seamlessly from one course to the next, with each plate more surprising and delightful than the last. Standouts included the signature biltong-inspired amuse-bouche and a dessert course that was as playful as it was precise. The wine pairings were spot-on — each glass elevating the dishes it accompanied without overshadowing them. And the optional visit to Maria, the private cheese room across the street, was a beautiful bonus — a rustic-chic contrast to the refined dining room, and a sensory highlight of the evening. In short, JAN is a triumph — not just of technical excellence, but of heart, hospitality, and storytelling through food. A must-visit for anyone serious about dining in the French Riviera.
