A reliable Berlin classic — hearty dishes, friendly staff, and a buzz that makes every meal feel like a celebration. We keep coming here, but learned the trick: arrive early or eat off-peak to skip the line and maximize schnitzel time. Now for the best part — the food. We always go for the classic schnitzel: simple, comforting, and utterly reliable. The goulash is another tasty contender you should try. Some people rave about the white sausages, but they were a bit bland for us and the texture was an acquired taste. The pretzel arrived very, very salty, but don’t skip dessert — the banana ice cream is a knockout and the perfect sweet finish after a savory feast.
Walked in on a weekday evening and got a table easily. Inside is nice and spacious, and has a cosy tavern vibe with lots of beer! I went for veal meatballs with mashed potatoes and gravy for my main. The meatballs had a nice crust and were nicely seasoned, not dry at all. Mash was not completely smooth and had a bit of texture, but tasted as it should do. It all goes well with the gravy but even better when you squeeze copious amounts of mustard on so you can have it with each bite. Portion size was very generous! Also, their pretzels looked really good too but I had eaten earlier so didn’t have much space.. For dessert it was an apple strudle with custard and ice cream. Nice flakey pastry and slightly tart apple filling. The hot custard makes for a fun contrast with the cold ice cream. Come here for authentic Bavarian food :)
Restaurant Maximilians Berlin was a fantastic find! This lively spot captures authentic Bavarian charm with servers in traditional outfits and exceptional service. The extensive beer list paired perfectly with our meal. The Wiener schnitzel was sensational—crispy and flavorful—while the sausage, steak dishes, and warm pretzels were equally excellent. It’s a popular place, so booking is recommended. Highly recommend for a taste of Bavaria in Berlin!
First day in Berlin! The host was super friendly and we had a lovely meal in the enclosed terrace. Service was great and overall I have nothing negative to say. Solid spot!
My first meal in Berlin at Maximilian turned out to be an excellent choice. The menu offers a wonderful introduction to German cuisine, with dishes that were both flavorful and beautifully prepared. The staff were warm and attentive, making the whole experience even better. Definitely a must-try when in Berlin!
