Great little gem. Kind of Vietnamese street food restaurant. It is on a basement with some outside table. Simple service but efficient. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Large menu items with picture and description of each dish which is really hepful. I had the summer rolls with prawn. Fresh and full of flavour once in your mouth, one of my favourites... would definitely recommend this restaurant.
This was my second visit to this Asian restaurant in Hamburg, and I’d describe it as a place with a very particular charm—a bit quirky, a bit rough around the edges, but not without its strengths. The staff is of Asian origin and quite friendly, but the overall presentation feels informal, maybe too much so. There’s no uniform or clear dress code, and at times I wasn’t even sure who actually worked there and who didn’t. It gives off more of a “home kitchen” vibe than a polished restaurant experience. The menu has a retro feel to it—like something out of an older takeaway spot—and the outdoor seating has clearly seen better days. Still, the most important thing: the food was decent. I had a salmon poke bowl, and it was fresh, well-balanced, and satisfying. Nothing mind-blowing, but definitely enjoyable. All in all, a decent experience. I’m giving it four stars, because while the setting and service could use polish, the food was good and I left happy.
We drop by and seeing the goods reviews decided to stay for a quick dinner. Food was amazing and service was friendly, but we order only 2 mains courses and they took almost 45min to come, which I find very slow. Overall I would probably come back anyways :)
We dropped in on short notice after seeing the solid reviews and decided to go for the lunch menu — two quick mains, one with tofu in a lemongrass sauce and veggies, and I went with the crispy chicken in red curry with rice. Service? Lightning fast. Food? Decent, but didn’t exactly sweep us off our feet. To keep it short: both sauces felt a bit tame, almost flat. The red curry coconut sauce was on the watery side, and the veggie mix could’ve used more variety — zero cauliflower, barely any broccoli. As for the tofu dish, the tofu itself was pretty sparse compared to the generous portion of crispy chicken on my plate. Bottom line: price-to-portion ratio is okay, especially considering the central Hamburg location. We left full, but those 4.8-star reviews? A bit of a mystery to us. If you’re in the mood for a no-fuss Vietnamese lunch with zero surprises, this spot won’t let you down — just don’t expect fireworks.
A Hidden Gem in the Heart of Hamburg 🌸 U-Kitchen is truly a delightful spot nestled in one of the most beautiful and charming areas of Hamburg – right by the Colonnaden and just a short stroll from the Alster. The location couldn’t be more perfect: elegant, peaceful, and full of character.
