Charming little restaurant in a side street near St. Michael’s Church. The seafood soup was really tasty, and the place has a nice historic vibe. However, the staff were surprisingly unfriendly – they even tried to talk us out of staying and trying their famous soup. Another downside was that some of the dishes had chips on them, which isn’t great from a hygiene perspective. A strange experience in an otherwise promising place.
Labskaus appetizer version and Pannfisch was good enough to split with 2 people. I was prepared to be disappointed but I was actually delighted by the food quality. The mustard sauce was not too strong not too weak. The potatos bacon bits and chives side which came with the Panfish was in particular delicious and a highlight.
The service and the environment were so welcoming when we arrived. The spot was a bit hidden in an alleyway but not too hard to find. They offered English menu to non-German speaker. We ordered 2 soups and 2 mains for the table. Aalsuppe (Eel soup) - The eel is boneless and incredibly tender. The soup is simmered with a variety of vegetables, giving it a naturally sweet flavour. Krabbensuppe (Crab soup) - The crab soup is creamy and bursting with rich crab flavor. The small prawns in the soup and the dollop of cream on top add an extra layer of taste and texture Schnitzel - The food portion is generous and freshly fried. It’s served with crispy potato slice and cucumber slices, which add a refreshing contrast to the fried dish Pasta with Lobster Sauce - The pasta is also in a decent size, with a rich and creamy lobster sauce. The grilled boneless fish is tender, well-seasoned, and pairs perfectly with the pasta. Funny story: We were actually in a rush to catch a coach, but the restaurant was simply too good to skip. We have no regrets about cutting it close and nearly missing our coach. The waiter was also very understanding of our situation and did his best to accommodate us😊
The interior is beautifully designed with charming furniture that really adds to the warm and inviting ambiance. The staff were attentive, friendly, and very helpful throughout our visit. While there weren’t many options for starters or appetizers, the main courses more than made up for it — both the steak and fish dishes were absolutely delicious. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a genuine local dining experience in Hamburg
We wanted an authentic German restaurant experience. This is the place! Tucked away on a side alley this is authentic German food. We were helped by our server - she guided us to what we wanted. Super friendly and just the right amount of service. A bit pricey but worth it. We dined outside but you have to take a look inside- gorgeous!
