We visited nearly 15 Japanese restaurants across various European cities (including Düsseldorf) between February and April—each run by Japanese chefs—and Kicho in Stuttgart stands out as one of the very best. We dined at Kicho for lunch in April and returned in early August for both lunch and dinner. One unique feature is their traditional Japanese zashiki room, with authentic tatami mats, which adds to the immersive dining experience. The food is exceptional and truly authentic (the taste might be slightly salty for Japanese). The service is warm, quick and attentive, and the pricing is more than reasonable for the quality offered. For lunch, on both visits, we chose the Large Sushi set (€25.50), which included a chef’s greeting and miso soup—excellent value for money. For dinner, we tried the Tempura Menu (€60.00), which included five assorted starters (oyster, radish, chicken, okra, and wagyu croquette—subject to change), a daily special (I had sashimi), a generous serving of tempura, and dessert. Every course was beautifully prepared and delicious. The sake selection is not extensive, but what they offer is well-curated, and you can enjoy high-quality sake that pairs beautifully with the dishes. We thoroughly enjoyed each visit and will definitely return to Kicho whenever we're in Stuttgart.
Not all sushi are the same: at Kicho is where quality meets perfection I have been here since 3 years and only have my Stuttgart sushi here, it’s really the best The fried chicken is AMAZING!! Also Try out the Kobe sushi and Aubergine
Great Japanese authentic restaurant in the heart of Stuttgart! I enjoyed the food, great variety of sushi at a reasonable price. Service was very fast, the two Masters at the sushi counter were friendly as the waiter who served us. The atmosphere was identical to the one you can find in Japan. Will be back!
Although I enjoyed all the dishes at Kicho, I had to give 4 out of 5 due to the service. My server forgot about my order that I had to remind him of it once again. Staff are not generally so friendly. Since it was an important business lunch meeting, it took longer and I excused myself but had to feel quite uncomfortable about it.
29 July, 2023 Apologies to my followers, I'm not inspired to write a companion story for this review. I've struggled with rating Kicho. I've visited several times and I've always liked it. However, I was not so impressed with my last visit. The fish is very fresh, with ample color and flavor. However, their sushi rolls seem rather bland to me and could use other ingredients to pick them up. I also felt the eel was overpriced. I get that the eel is expensive, but other items could be served with it other than just rice so I don't feel cheated. I usually give three stars to a restaurant that I don't plan on returning to. This doesn't mean the food was bad, in most cases the food is enjoyable enough. However, I feel that Kicho deserves more than a three for serving quality fish, which can be hard to come by, and a large variety of fish. My final rating is 4/5, "Kicho serves quality fish but lacks creativity and execution when it comes to sushi rolls."
