We were told about this place by a friend and made a point of stopping when in town. We were greeted as soon as we entered the door by exceptionally friendly staff who explained the vegetarian and meat-based daily soup offerings served in home made soup bowls. We ordered one of each as a combo with beer and were delighted by both the hearty soups and crunchy-crusted bread bowls. An exceptional experience for all!
Best soup in Reykjavik! Every day they have different flavors, so you'll want to eat there more than once. The staff is also funny and friendly. Great atmosphere. Definitely worth it!
This place is great for a quick meal — they basically serve one thing: soup in a bread bowl! There’s usually a vegetarian option and then a meat option. They also serve beer, sodas and an excellent hot chocolate for the kids. I forget what the soups were called, but one time we had a potato based soup, and then there was a lamb stew. Another time was a mixed vegetable soup and a sausage soup. (Yes, it was good enough to go back twice!!). The bread is also very good too. One of my favorite restaurants easily —- it wasn’t too touristy and wasn’t crazy overpriced. Thumbs up!!!
Very close to our hotel, we needed a quick bite and stumbled upon this gem. The bread bowls with both meat and vegetable options were so good. Very tasty! Highly recommend.
Today at Svarta Kaffi, they were serving just two soups: a broccoli vegetable and a beef-lamb stew. Both were excellent, but the beef-lamb stew had a slight edge in flavor and richness. Each soup comes in a hearty bread bowl, and a big bonus is that they offer one free refill — perfect if you want to sample both varieties in one visit. The staff were friendly and welcoming, adding to the cozy atmosphere. A great stop for a warm, satisfying meal in Reykjavik
