In Siena, just steps from Porta Camollia, I discovered Rusticamente Osteria, and it was a truly delightful experience. Reading the menu, I discovered Verna wheat, which I hadn't heard of, and after doing some research to understand what it was, I chose the Verna wheat pappardelle with wild boar ragù. Verna wheat is an ancient grain native to Tuscany, in the Monte Verna area, from which it takes its name. A handmade pappardelle with a perfect consistency that held its shape beautifully during cooking. I was also craving meat, and rather than a steak—the cut was too large for me alone—I chose the beef sirloin; cooked to perfection, tender, and flavorful. I paired my first and second courses with a glass of Tuscan red wine, a pure Sangiovese. The plating was beautiful, in a warm and welcoming, yet very spartan, ambience with that little rustic touch that puts you at ease. Attentive and friendly service, with just the right amount of time between courses. Prices are in line with the quality and authentic atmosphere of the restaurant. This restaurant is recommended for those seeking authentic, carefully prepared Tuscan cuisine without the touristy excess. Perhaps just slightly more generous portions?

This restaurant was near our hotel and was the initial reason for stopping by around 6:15 to see if there was any availability for 7pm when they opened. The staff was friendly. The atmosphere was cozy. But most importantly, the food was absolutely fresh and delicious. Our best meal in Italy yet. Some of the dishes that we had were fried mushrooms (a special), crustini bread with three different spreads, vegetable soup, pasta and tirimisu for dessert. It was a memorable dinner for us.

I would so keep this place a secret but I need people to try the pici ragu dish from here!!! I am not particularly a ragu fan but it was easily the BEST ragu I have ever had, not to mention the fresh pici. I would go back to Siena only for this to be honest. The trippa stew is one of its kind as well. No gamey smell at all, just hearty warm stew and it’s all you need on a rainy day. The place is normally quite full so you’d better make a reservation beforehand.

A place absolutely sparks the joy of delicious food! The slow cooked pork rib is absolutely delicious with the texture and right amount grease, tender inside, roasted outside. We ordered way more than we should have, and we loved every single dish. Absolutely amazing experience!
