It's been a while since I visited the "Carmagola", but the place just cannot leave my mind. Nicola has created something truly special here and in my mind it is just a matter of time until the restaurant received at least one Michelin star. Everything is at the highest level - the service, the ambience and of course the food. You will not regret ordering the Menù Degustazione, which given the quality is an actual bargain at 80€, as well as the wine pairing with 20€ which was very attentively selected. In summary, I spent about 3h here and calling it a "meal" would be disrespectful - it was an absolutely outstanding experience and I savored every second of it.
We arrived at opening and seated without a reservation. We ordered a squid appetizer. As entrees my wife ordered the rabbit ravioli and I the salmon. The appetizer arrived with my salmon entree. Not ideal but what the heck. We typically share our entrees so we ate what was served. Of course thinking the ravioli would soon arrive. Nope. As we watched another table who ordered after us eat their dinner and desert, our ravioli arrived 40 minutes after our first course. Taste was fine though pasta was undercooked and tough. We ate all 6 tiny ravioli, paid our bill and left. No tip as they charged 6euros for bread we didn’t order. Bread was great tho. If we could have gotten any comment from staff, like we screwed up and we apologize. No, nothing nada zilch.
The food was delicious and the staff in general were very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, my experience with the head of staff was less positive. I initially ordered a sparkling wine while my partner was undecided about which white wine to choose. The head of staff kindly brought four open bottles, three whites and one sparkling. He let her taste two and she selected one. At that point, I decided I would also prefer a white wine instead of sparkling and asked if I might taste one. To my surprise, he declined, saying that he couldn’t allow “everyone in the restaurant” to taste all the wines. Since I personally hadn’t tried any wine at that point, this came across as unnecessarily dismissive. The way it was communicated felt disrespectful and unfortunately overshadowed an otherwise enjoyable experience
Amazing restaurant - service is a level up, food is even better, and a wine list and recommendation is over the top! fantastic!
A great gem of a restaurant. Beautiful interior, excellent service (also speaking very good English!) and a menu where you can't bring yourself to choose what to order, as everything is incredibly tasty. We had an amazing lunch where we couldn't help but steal from each others plates, just to taste as much as possible.
