Underwhelming Experience – More a Snack Bar than a highly rated Restaurant. We had high hopes for Mio Basque Urban Food while visiting Bilbao. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to the glowing reviews. The atmosphere felt more like a noisy snack bar than a proper restaurant. Service was a bit reluctant, and despite the international crowd, no one on staff could explain the menu in English, which made ordering difficult. The food was hit-and-miss. The tomato salad with tuna and anchovies was the clear standout—fresh and well-balanced. However, the oxtail, though not bad, was served cold. The octopus was disappointing: chewy, bland, slimy in texture, and was also given to us cold. To top it off, the front door was left open, letting cigarette smoke drift in from outside, and we were seated next to a large, unsightly stack of unused chairs that made it feel like the place was shutting down. Overall, Mio Basque feels overhyped and underdelivers. For those seeking a pleasant dining experience in Bilbao, there are far better options.
Very tasty food and nice decorations. The woman who were servings us was very nice, but there were plenty of empty table but they choose to give us a table next to colum which wasn't good, when we asked for another table they said this one is for the people who made the reservation since long time ago. Till the end of our meal no one came. So they could easily tell us like you can sit on that table and you 1 hour ou 1.5 hour but they choose to say no, it's good to give your clients an option. If you want to eat good quality food it's one of the places, but it's pricey, they would charge you 2.5€ per person for a bread and a little bit of olive oil (good quality olive oil) in a very small plate. The Low temperature cooked eggs and beef sirloin were very tasty
We had a wonderful evening at this restaurant. The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was cozy, and everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Special thanks to Isabella, our server, whose friendly attitude and professionalism added to the overall great experience. Highly recommended – we’ll definitely be back!
Extremely disappointing experience. Despite having a reservation, we were given a table right by the bar. I asked the waiter to move us outside once a table became available, but he didn’t follow through, and someone else ended up taking it. The staff made no effort to offer us menus or drinks — we had to ask for them ourselves. On top of that, the place has a tasteless, uninspired décor: it feels more like a noisy sports bar, with oversized televisions everywhere and zero sense of style. After finishing our wine, we left — and we will definitely never return.
I had a really bad experience at this place. Guys, you seriously need to replace your chairs! My husband fell and hurt his arm, the one that recently had surgery, because his chair was broken! Instead of an apology, we got mocked with a sarcastic “should we call an ambulance?” Your customer service is, to put it mildly, terrible. Then they offered to move us to another table, but the chairs there were wobbly too. Both of them! It’s just ridiculous. It’s really hard to enjoy your food (which was decent, by the way) when all you can think about is whether the chair under you is going to break, because it’s wobbling. And of course, the bill included everything, drinks and even the bread, despite all these problems with this place 🤡 Guys, your service is awful. I suggest you work on it. And fix your chairs 😉 Update: Please note that three chairs at the table where we sat are wobbly too. These are located next to the low counter near the bar counter. Thankfully, these aren't bar chairs, so the situation isn't dangerous, but they do need attention. Best regards!
