It was wonderful to dine on top of a high hill, with such a beautiful view. The crispiness of the croquette’s exterior and the softness inside were simply the best. The best croquette of my life. The fish dish was also delicious.
Food was excellent, service was top notched, humble and very friendly. Easy to get to and ample parking but better don’t drive coz they have an excellent wine list
Kate Zaharra: Great Views, Expectations Ahead of Reality We went to Kate Zaharra, drawn by its reputation, its status as a benchmark in Bilbao, and the views. And yes, the views are great. But once seated, you expect everything else to match… and that’s where things fell short. The food was mediocre —some dishes were fine, like hamon iberico, but others lacked that extra something you anticipate from a restaurant with this kind of name and pricing, or were bad as zucchinis and meatballs, they were like school lunch. We didn’t leave totally disappointed, but it felt a little underwhelming. The setting? Incredible location, no doubt. But dining in a plastic tent patched with tape isn’t quite the experience you expect. The place could really use a refresh to live up to its surroundings and reputation. In short: a lukewarm experience. The views are worth it, but the rest needs polishing.
Set high on a hillside, this restaurant offers a magnificent view of Bilbao as well as delicious classic cuisine and lovely local wines. We started in the wine cellar, enjoying a glass of wine with a "snack" of anchovies. Then we were shown to our table on the main floor, our wine bottle transported on a dumbwaiter. We shared clams and snails, then I had a lovely steak and crispy potatoes while my husband enjoyed crispy fried squid. Even the gluteen free bread was fresh baked and perfect.
Excellent food. Gorgeous views of Bilbao. Started the experience selecting wine and eating some starters in the winery. Had lunch in an outdoor terrace looking to the city from above. The chickpeas with crab were delicious. As main, we got a grilled fish which was very tasty and served in big portions. Ended with homemade desserts. The servants were very professional and paid attention to detail.
