Puerta del Mar offers a refined dining experience right in Valencia’s historic Ciutat Vella, making it an excellent choice for special occasions and culinary appreciation. The restaurant’s strength lies in its **mastery of traditional Valencian rice dishes**, especially the seafood paella, praised for its perfectly cooked rice and fresh, flavorful ingredients. Signature starters like chargrilled black leek with hummus and salmon tartare showcase thoughtful preparation and elegant presentation. The ambiance strikes a balance between warm and inviting with a stylish interior, where attentive, professional service enhances the experience without intrusion. While moderately priced, the quality and craftsmanship justify the value. Booking ahead is advisable, particularly during busy times or festivals, to ensure a memorable occasion marked by authentic flavors and polished hospitality.

Excellent location, food, and service. We ordered chargrilled black leak with hummus and bread as starters and the traditional Valencian paella as our main dish. The service was incredibly fast and attentive. However, when ordering the paella, the staff informed us that it takes up to 40 minutes to prepare, as it is made fresh to order—which we really appreciated. The atmosphere was also great, there was live music. Would definitely recommend!

Delightful find. Great food just off the main square in the old town. Food was delicious, so we’ve booked for another day. Service was good - waiters made several recommendations for dessert. Live music was unexpected and reasonable. Both steaks were great - full of flavour and well seasoned; sea bass was perfectly cooked and fleshly; all the deserts were great. Highly recommend for sea bass and steaks but the paella was our least favourite.

I had a truly delightful meal in a warm and inviting atmosphere. The food was delicious, thoughtfully prepared, and beautifully presented. What made the experience even more memorable was the impeccable service provided by Maddie. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect throughout the lunch. Her professionalism and charm elevated the entire experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for great food and top-notch service. I’ll definitely be coming back!

After reading other reviews I expected this place to be much different. To be honest, seafood paella was good (the rice was perfect), but the seafood was poor in quantity compared with other photos from 3 months ago. The lights was so blindful we had to switch tables. The plates were dirty so we had to change them 3 times to get a proper one. The scallops are really small and I didn’t like the vegetables inside them. The local red wine Garnacha Centenaria is good.

This was a frustrating night. We were excited to try paella before leaving Valencia, and this place seemed like a good option near our hotel. However, we were incredibly disappointed by the surroundings and by the service. The food was all right, but nowhere near the 40€ per person that we ended up paying. They need to decide if they want to be an upscale expensive restaurant, or a place that has children running back and forth from table to table, because tonight they tried to be both. Most frustrating, the service was terrible. They forgot to bring us water for 25 minutes, our server was never seen, and 15 minutes after asking for the check we literally had to go beg to pay so we could leave because nobody would come to the table to take our payment. This is a €40 per person restaurant with €10 per person service. Honestly, we probably could have gotten better service at Burger King around the corner. Don't bother wasting this amount of money on an establishment that cares about you so little.
