La Terracita Cuina de Mercat
Featured in Guide
La Terracita Cuina de Mercat in Valencia is a charming, intimate spot tucked away in Ciutat Vella where you get a truly personal dining experience. The place is small and cozy, with a warm, welcoming vibe and simple décor that lets the food shine. Josh, the English chef-owner, runs the entire show—from shopping fresh daily at the local market to cooking, serving, and clearing—adding a unique, friendly touch that makes each visit feel special and memorable[1][2]. Food-wise, there’s no fixed menu; Josh creates dishes spontaneously depending on what’s freshest that day. Signature highlights include impeccably seared sea bass and fresh, beautifully presented prawns that showcase Valencia’s coastal flavors. The quality of ingredients is outstanding, and dishes come artistically plated but in modest portions, so it’s more about savoring quality over quantity. The market-to-table approach keeps every meal surprising and fresh[1][5]. Pricing is mid-range but feels like a steal given the top-tier quality and personalized service. Reservations are essential since the small space fills quickly, especially during peak hours. La Terracita suits couples or food lovers wanting an intimate, relaxed evening rather than large groups. It’s gained buzz for its authenticity and Josh’s dedication, earning a solid spot among Valencia’s best with a devoted local following and growing social media chatter[2][4]. If you want a quiet, thoughtful meal where every bite tells a story of Valencia’s freshest market finds, La Terracita is the place to try. Just be ready for a surprise menu and a cozy, personal vibe you won’t find in bigger restaurants.

We had such an amazing experience at la Terracita! A friend (Sam) recommended it to us and the meal didn't disappoint. Josh does everything himself - from cooking the food to serving and clearing up - and he does a brilliant job! He found time to come out and introduce all the dishes (in Spanish and English), chat with everyone and still create such delicious food. The set menu is a fun mystery, as you don't know what you're going to get - he goes to the market to get fresh ingredients every day and he chooses the menu based on the best ingredients he can find. As we requested it in advance, he managed to make it both gluten-free and pregnancy-safe for me. I was especially touched by the fact he cooked my prawns, while leaving them raw for my boyfriend (as they were supposed to be!) and provided a separate gluten-free version of the dessert. The food was simply sublime and we'd encourage anyone visiting Valencia to book a table and go here!
I have been lucky enough to eat in some of the best restaurants in the world and tasted some of the finest food on offer. La Terracita is up there with them. Josh, the owner, chef, waiter, and bottle washer, sources his ingredients on a daily basis from the central market and produces delightful food. Beautifully cooked dishes each described by Josh when served. Today, we had starters of prawns, salmon wrapped in seaweed, pork cheek, and scallops. The main course was fillet of sea bass, cooked to perfection, followed by dessert. Just quality food. I cannot recommend La Terracita highly enough. Well done young man you deserve the accolades that you have received and those that are on their way.
The amount of Ooooohs and Aaaahs over each dish! Everything was delicious and so well thought out. Josh is a master of the market to table experience. We will be back!
Small restaurant run by a super cool English dude who buys things fresh everyday from the market. Can't find anything fresher! 100% recommended.
Amazing experience in a unique situation- Josh, the chef, owner and server cooks what is available fresh from the market that day and there is no menu. It’s tiny and he brings each course to the table and each dish was better than the last. We enjoyed three appetizers, an entree and a desert and were happy to eat gorgeous food cooked especially for us. We will return, thank you Josh!
