Ended up here in a bit of a pinch after trying two other Asian restaurants in the area and being turned away as they were full. I had the green curry with chicken and was not disappointed. It has some heat to it, nothing unbearable, and the portion size was good. Quite a lot of seating inside, it was busy but not totally rammed with people. Service was a bit on the slow/unattentive side.
Food is okaish, friendly staff, okaish vibe. Our wonton was a bit over fried. The thai curry soup was good. The pad kra pao was also good.
Finally an authentic Thai food in the Dreilälbereck. The Green curry was well balanced, it would have been perfect if Thai eggplant was not missing. Thai basil beef (Pad Kra Pao), was also excellent. It seems one can’t go wrong with any choice in the menu. I found wine prices on the high end. Probably one of the best Thai restaurants in the region.
I usually enjoy the noodle dishes here—they’ve always been excellent. Today, I tried a dish served with rice, but the rice was undercooked, dry, and crunchy. I let the staff know, and they brought a replacement, but it was the same. After mentioning it again, they said they're re-cooking the rice with more water. The process took quite a while, and by then, my companion had already finished eating. It’s surprising to get improperly cooked rice—especially at an Asian restaurant, where rice is such a staple. That being said, I appreciated their effort to resolve the issue and their gesture of not charging for the dish.
Order Khaosoi and it was surprisingly better than the one I tried in Bangkok. I’m pretty skeptical to Asian food in Basel as they’re usually the “adjusted” version to cater to western palate but the Khaosoi here was sooooo goood. The soup is super rich in taste, full of spices, noodle was at the right texture and creamy. Portion is also big (i couldnt finish it). Price was a bit on the higher side but pretty normal for Basel and I understand the amount of labor behind this noodle so it was worth it. Will come back again to try other dishes.
