Steak Pie was fantastic! Also had the Mince & Tatties and a side of Mac&Cheese. All the food was delicious, ate every bite. The atmosphere is really cool, outdoor seating available. Was quite busy when we went so plan ahead on a reservation for a larger party.
Unfortunately disappointing. We were four for dinner, and three of us were excited to try the Cullen Skink in bread. We ordered three, plus one lamb dish with mashed potatoes. The lamb and the first Cullen Skink arrived looking great, but the other two came late, and were practically empty, just bread with a bit of fish and no soup. We politely asked the waiter if the kitchen could add some soup. She took the plates back but returned a few minutes later with them looking exactly the same and said nothing. When we called her over again, she told us this is how the soup is. Only when we asked for the bill did she finally admit the soup was finished. That’s not a problem in itself, it happens, but we should have been told at the time of ordering, when the kitchen realized, or at least when the first dish came out. Instead, two of us ended up with almost nothing to eat. To be fair, the waiter wasn’t rude and did waive the two soups from the bill, but I would have much preferred to pay and actually enjoy a meal. The other plates were delicious, but the situation was handled very poorly. Sadly, I wouldn’t return for this reason.
Enjoyed the steak pie with some great chips. Went early and got a seat quickly. Prices steep as most places in area, but as nice as any other spot in the area.
The food and service were excellent. The lamb shank was tender and delicious. The steak pie had just the right amount of meat to crust, and the fish and chips were crisp and delicious. The service was attentive and quick and very friendly. I highly recommend this pub. It’s right off the Royal Mile.
The wait was surprisingly short, as walk-ins were able to sit at the bar and enjoy a drink while waiting for a table. Our table was ready quickly, and I appreciated how attentive the staff was in making sure guests were seated in the order they arrived. The food was excellent overall—although they had run out of the salmon that evening, the steak pie more than made up for it. Absolutely delicious!
