Haggis is the national dish of Scotland. It is a savory pudding made from the heart, liver, and lungs of a sheep, mixed with onions, oats, beef tallow, and spices, stuffed into a sheep's stomach and cooked. [2][3] It has a firm, chewy texture and a salty, nutty flavor. It is usually served with neeps and mashed potatoes, which is very traditional.
We came here to try scotch eggs and and haggies. Eventhough I was expecting to not like haggies (I don't like eating lungs and...), I actually tried a bite of it and it was nice, my boyfriend also really enjoyed it. It was 12£. I ordered the scotch eggs, I planned on getting them when I saw the pictures and I was very excited, But I really didn't like them. They were cold, the staff kindly heat them for me which was nice, but I don't know if I just don't like this dish or I didn't like it here ahahha. This was 14£. The soup for 6.5£ was AMAZING and flavorful. A little cold outside so it was absolutely needed and it did not disappoint. All things considered I think you should go here for the haggies, but if you are not a fan of cold eggs and meat avoid the scotch eggs. Special thanks to the kind staff.
I only took one star off because I've never had haggis before so I can't really compare it to others but I enjoyed it immensely. That whiskey sauce was amazing. My tatties and neeps we're extremely good too. Thanks to the place that I stayed for highly recommending this place. Thank you to the staff for their kindness and hospitality. I would definitely recommend it and will definitely be back if I ever get to return to Edinburgh again. ♥️
I didn’t know what to expect! My tour guide recommended the place, refused to tell me anything other than “get haggis with whiskey sauce.” Okkkkkk! The ingredients are vile, but I’ll eat anything as long as it tastes good! This was no exception! Very tasty meal (kinda pricy for a snack, 13 pounds), but I think it’s filling. Good service! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Small cafe inside the Scottish Storytelling Centre on the Royal Mile. I had cake and the Haggis. The Haggis itself was extremely dry, crumbly, bland and lacking in flavour - almost comparable to cardboard or polystyrene, and fell apart when the waitress placed it on the table. I've never had Haggis crumble before my very eyes before. I was quite surprised given the positive reviews. I definitely recommend the Auchentoshan whisky & mustard sauce, as it is rich in flavour and is what gave the Haggis any sort of moisture or flavour. The Neeps and Tatties themselves were hot and quite nice in flavour and texture. I also had some "Fly Cemetery" cake, which was quite delicious. Service was good. The gentleman at the stand was helpful in helping me decide a cake, and also, thankfully, recommended me the Auchentoshan whisky & mustard sauce. It is a nice, quiet and peaceful atmosphere. As it is inside the Storytelling Centre, you can read about some traditional Scottish tales. The venue also hosts occasional community events. Whilst I wouldn't recommend the Haggis, I would recommend going there and relaxing with a slice of cake.
