This is a review of the restaurant: This is a fine-dining, exceptional experience in beautiful surroundings. We were in the upper dining room, the other dining room is lower and more airy--ours had dark hard woods and candle light: very atmospheric. The service was highly professional and knowledgeable. They have a separate menu with allergens--we were able to find several dishes and a dessert that were dairy free. They have a nicely deep selection of single malts and three beers in bottle when we visited. Their Gin and Tonic has a touch of vanilla and is very, very good. They also have a very extensive wine menu. We had their chilled seafood board and it was incredible. The quality of the crab, eel, and salmon was excellent--but it was the accompaniments that set this presentation apart: perilla leaf, beet creams, bitter melon. We also had their vegan moussaka which was tasty and wonderfully-presented, although overshadowed by the quality of the fish in the previous dish. We finished with a vegan yogurt sponge that was, once again, pushed a cut above by the perfect accompanying flavors--berries, vegan creams, etc. Get to town and make reservations as soon as you can. Truly a wonderful Edinburgh experience.
This is definitely a romantic white tablecloth restaurant. I would recommend getting a reservation online and checking out the menu ahead of time. The food was absolutely delicious. The staff were impeccable and the only thing that was challenging was finding the toilet. Be aware that the lighting is extremely low in here so if you be aware that the lighting is extremely low in here, so if you have vision challenges it could be challenging to navigate. There's a fun, slightly mystical theme to the restaurant, but truthfully it's a very romantic spot. There's a somnier and a selection of classical Scottish and British dishes. Please note that American wine is not particularly in the several hundred other options. There are a number of small steps to get in and the restaurant is on quite a slope on the Royal Mile. So this place is not recommended for people with mobility challenges that don't have good brakes. Allow yourself and the party the 2 hours for dinner and enjoy two or three courses.
The restaurant atmosphere is lovely. Very beautiful interior, candlelit, and the service was fantastic. The food was highly underwhelming though. At the price point we were expecting higher quality food and stronger flavors. Underwhelming food but lovely atmosphere.
One of the recommendations I found when I searched for places for a romantic places to eat and did not disappoint. The place has an elegant ambiance, perfect for celebrating special occasions. We had Land Wellington for dinner and some drinks - it was really good. The service is exceptional.
My husband and I went here for a special honeymoon meal and we were not disappointed. It was very romantic, the setting is stunning and the service was excellent. Definitely worth a stop if you find yourself in Edinburgh but I think you'd find you have to book in advance. The host even gave us some history into the restaurant when we asked, he was very knowledgeable!
