Kantouni restaurant

When I go to travel abroad, I dream of the perfect tavern - warm, welcoming, and with unpretentious but well-cooked food. In Kantouni I found this for the first time in Zante. The restaurant was charming, the owner was warm and friendly and the lamb was too die for - tender, cooked with thyme a hint of crusty salt and a taste that lingers in my palate even now.

Brilliant customer service from a traditional taverna in the city. Adonis, took care of us based on our dietary preferences. Food was freshly made, and the portion sizes were generous. Simple menu with freshly cooked specialties, mostly with meat and fair pricing. Filleted fish, with local sides was enjoyable. The warm pudding on the house is much appreciated. We would be happy to return back.

As an Australian with a Greek/Zakynthian heritage, I can wholeheartedly say, this is the epitome of Greek home cooking. I usually don’t return to the same restaurant in a short time span as I enjoy trying new places. However, I returned 3/4 nights on my trip. We had many items on the menu, all were cooked to perfection. I almost didn’t want to write a review because I want to gate keep so it doesn’t become to busy. However that is not fair to this restaurant. Congratulations on such a fine place. Special shout out to our waiter Andonis, such a professional at your work. When I come back to Zakynthos, this is the first place I will return too.

Wonderful and rustic style homely restaurant. You can tell a restaurant knows what they are doing when they have select items on the menu. No frills, no extra embellishments to cater to tourists. True and honest greek food. Each of these dishes were very well made, with care and love. The owner is the kindest gentleman and the restaurant is a family run establishment where you can taste the love they make their dishes with. One of the best meals we had on the island and we would definitely be returning. Highly recommend the lamb - melting in your mouth, accompanied with potatoes roasted in its fat. Thinking about this makes my mouth water. We also ordered the stuffed vegetables that are not only vegetarian friendly but EXTREMELY delicious and paired perfectly with the lamb. Wow the best restaurant we have eaten in on our holiday because of the family atmosphere and excellent varied choice of menu, that apparently changes every day. I had cuttlefish with roast potatoes with a side dish of okra. My wife had eggs (3) unusually in a tomato sauce with chips. Real chips not oven chips. This was all washed down with a local beer called Levante Zante lager which had a pleasant different flavour to Mythos, etc. Definitely worth a visit as not like other restaurants in the area and the choice of locals. Always a good sign
